One More Thought About Bush and Kanye

I've got to admit, there's something a little weird -- and possibly post-adult -- about a world in which the former president of the United States says his "lowest moment" was being dissed by a rapper. George W. Bush clearly doesn't understand that the proper response is not to whine, but to compose his own diss track! Somehow, I have a hard time imagining LBJ being kept up nights because the Temptations were angry about Vietnam.

I've only read the NYT review, but I would expect a post-presidential biography to give us an enlightening look inside the mind of someone faced with impossibly difficult decisions and to provide some reasonable justifications (not excuses) for those actions. It sounds like Shrub is still a child, pointing the fingers at his staff for not keeping him informed (the frequent use of "blindsided"). Guess what, dude. You're the President - you're the boss. If there's a communication problem, that's on you.

On the Kanye West thing, I find it amusing that he points everything back to the Taylor Swift episode, as if that was the only clue to himself that he was an asshole. OK, maybe it was.
